“Bring It” |
The first of the year I wrote an appeal letter. http://rhiannon.blogs.pagannation.com/2008/02/09/so-we-start-again-with-united-healthcare-and-the-acn/ OCLC finally received the asked for information from UHC to make a decision on my second level apeal. They granted me all of my 24 visits for this year. I don’t know why except for the doctor’s reports on my meds and the MRIs I have had and how I am not able to have surgery. Anyway this is where OCLC did show they do care!
Last week 10TV had a blurb about the dispute between Ohio Health and United Healthcare Insurance. United Healthcare told 10tv a letter was sent explaining the dispute, when in reality they sent letters to people telling them their doctor would no longer be in United Healthcare Network and they would need to find a new doctor or pay extra out of pocket costs. read more here http://rhiannon.blogs.pagannation.com/2008/05/29/customers-react-to-health-insurance-dispute-10-tv-news-lied-to/ I just saw my doctor today just incase what United Healthcare said was true. Doctor Schumacher is very upset over this whole debacle. He is an independent contractor with United Healthcare Insurance. He is now wondering how much those letters sent by United Healthcare may have hurt his business. To me it would seem quite a bit since there were no patients sitting in his waiting room when we were there. Has United Healthcare once again crossed a line of the law?
So as many of you know I wrote an appeal letter to the American Chiropractic Network Group (ACN). In April I received a denial to my appeal from the ACN. They stated in that letter I had 60 days to request the information they used in making their determination. I wrote a letter on May 2 and faxed it to them on three different days. I have not received one rreply from them. It has been 30 days since that letter was sent the first time and I have yet to receive a reply from ACN to my letter. I now believe the ACN has crossed a line of the law by ignoring my letter. I have informaed the Ohio Department of Insurance of their blatant disrespect of the law. The letter I wrote to the ACN follows May 2, 2008
ACN group P.O. box 5600 Kingston, NY 12402-5600 Attention: Maureen S.
Dear Maureen S
As per your April 8th denial letter sent to me I am requesting all documents, records, and all other information you used to make your decision concerning my denial of chiropractic care. You will find this request to be well within the 60 days time frame you have set.
I would like to point out that there have been changes in my health since I could not follow Dr. Douglas Schumacher’s prescribed care for me due to your denial. I am now walking with a cane and have fallen several times because of my legs growing weak. If the ACN would consider new developments during the denial time frame I feel it would be beneficial to everyone especially the patients. I also would like to know what you suggest as an alternative solution to chiropractic care for me since Joseph Carpino does not seem to have any and this is part of your mission statement to do so.
Thank you
It would seem that the letters sent out by United Healthcare may be a ploy to get people to complain about Ohio Health. Instead it looks as though United Healthcare’s plan has back fired. http://www.ohiohealth.com/body.cfm?id=2658 “G/RMH Reference Lab Continues to Accept United Health Care (UHC)
It seems that 10TV has not searched for the whole story on the United Healthcare and Ohio Health contract dispute. United Healthcare said they sent a certain letter to their customers when in fact they have sent a totally different letter to some of their customers. read story here The letter we received concerning this stated; “While we regret any inconveniences that may occur, effective 6/10/2008, (dr name) will no longer participate in the UnitedHealthcare Network.” This is a totally different letter from what United Healthcare told 10TV what they sent. Another thing that is of suspect is our doctor was not informed that he would no longer be in the United Healthcare network! Something stinks of a dogpile here.
On United Healthcare site by Google it has a section on the specialized care provided http://www.aboutus.org/UnitedHealthGroup.com Products and ServicesSpecialised Care services are offered through ACN Group, Dental Benefit Providers, National Benefit Resources, Optum, Spectra, Unimerica Workplace Benefits, United Behavioral Health, and United Resource Networks. I have had dealing with the ACN Group/Network (who is now changing their name once again. I have had only 11 visits in the past six months. (Nov 27 - April 14, 2008) The ACN approved 2 of these visits and paid the Chiropractor $10 out of the $40 charged. With the ACN making any where from 10.0 mil and up in 2007 one would think they could approve more visits. Especially when it is in the best interest of the patient’s health needs and that this care is perscribed by a medical doctor.
